As you may know, High Point Market was this week in High Point, North Carolina. We went to market expecting to see some stunning new designs and some familiar faces – and we weren’t disappointed! Without further ado (because we’re all curious), here are some of our …
High Point Highlights
Lexington Home Brands
Arriving to the Lexington Home Brands High Point showroom is like arriving to your Greek palatial estate after a lengthy journey across foreign lands. Its glorious grounds embrace you with their sanctity and architectural prowess. It’s large and in charge.
Sherrill Furniture has many brands under their umbrella, including the Precedent line you already see on our site. This chair and case good in the background is part of the luxurious Sherrill line. Top dollar for top quality you may see some of these pieces in places like Nordstrom or luxury furniture retailers.
We made our first visit to Stanley Furniture this market. It’s a downtown mini-palace compared to Lexington, and with its rich blue carpets and brass accents it also feels like you’re in a Greek castle on the Mediterranean.
Every market (April and October) Younger Furniture comes out with several new pieces. This year we saw upholstered ottomans along with new sectionals (even one with a built in sofa table – so cool!) and sofas. Lots of new fabrics glam-ed up the offering and – fortunately for my feet – there was a lot of comfy sitting going on.
We got pretty excited about Skyline Furniture. Custom-upholstered beds made in Chicago since 1946 that can deliver to you in 4 weeks. They have some electric fabrics and have that good ‘ole “Made in the USA” feel to them. Fashion forward, affordable, and locally made. Triple threat!
So, Smart Furniture has been selling Sauder (pronounced Sow-der, like chowder) for years – you just never knew it. An authentic American original, 90% of Sauder’s furniture has been manufactured in small-town Ohio since 1934. Recently they partnered with some fancy designers and came up with a modern collection – all made of laminated wood composite, and all shipped ready to assemble. They give you the look of real wood but not the cost that makes your checking account or credit cards cringe.
We always stop by BDI to see their new and exciting offerings. Corridor has been a best seller since it was launched last year and the new Corridor Bar will be no different. Entertaining “Mad Men” style your thing? Look no further. Also, the new Stance Desk and Dining Tables were so sexy. And Sequel will soon have an executive desk that is 32″ deep and perfect for the modern workaholic.
The City and Metro Chairs were the new kids on the block at the Ekornes showroom. The vintage Stressless recliners that you sometimes see out and about have the metal bases but are circular in shape like the current line. These resemble the vintage collection and are the epitome of elegant comfort. They are available to order now and will be available for shipping early July.
Modern. Quick. Sexy. Can it get any better? We always love the Gus* Modern showroom because of their attention to detail. From the wall decals to the tabletop settings it just screams “you want me in your home!” The Switch Sofa shown below has reversible cushions that allow you to switch up your aesthetic. So cool!
Sustainably harvested solid wood furniture made in Vermont is what Copeland kicks out. This new Walnut bed is minimal and can be ordered with the shelf nightstands (as shown) or without.
Established in 1919 (almost as old as me), Vaughan Bassett‘s roots are deep and, to get even better, 97 percent of their furniture is made at home right here in the USA. Lots of new collections at market and several beds had upholstered footboards. Think of all the uses for a built in bench at the foot of your bed!
Technology meets design in Denmark with Skovby. From hidden remote receivers in their media pieces to LED-lit curio cabinets, Skovby has you covered. Best known for their dining sets – most of their tables expand to meet your family’s changing needs.
One of the hot colors at High Point was, of course, the Radiant Orchid that is Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2014. We also saw lots of Dusty Rose on wood, fabric, and really anything. Linens are still in as well as Walnut and white-washed woods. Lots of coastal feels and brass accents on dark woods. All in all, exciting new products on the horizon for Smart Furniture and, in turn, YOU!
